August 2012. I wasn’t able to consistantly lift due to shoulder and knee pain. My muscle faded away and I put on some flab. I have reevaluated and started doing some cardio training as well as change my nutrition to remove the excess fat off of my body. I have started running on the treadmill using a Couch to 10k application on my iPhone. I actually really enjoy running which I would never have thought possible. I’d still like to improve my posture and have more functional strength. But completing a marathon is now on my list of things to do before I hit 50. From what I have learned I will need to take it really slow so that my body can adapt to the rigors of distance running.
August 2011. Welcome to my journey. I am 46 going on 47 years old as I start this blog. I am determined to build muscle, get stronger and improve my posture. I started barbell training August 1st of 2011. The program I am using is Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. This is a program designed for beginners. I am in no way an expert so I am following methods proven by others.
More reasons for getting strong:
- If I am strong I get to eat more – I enjoy good food!
- I will be able to lift more and be more useful.
- I’ll be more durable and harder to kill
